KTS is seeking an experienced systems engineer to provide technical leadership in the development and certification of avionics installations on military aircraft.  This is a full-time position at the KTS facility in Des Plaines, IL.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve in a leadership capacity of a multi-disciplinary team to design, procure, manufacture, install, and test military avionics systems
  • Coordinate with Government customers to understand and meet system requirements including, but not limited to, airworthiness and safety
  • Liaise with engineering, manufacturing, and aircraft artisans to ensure consistency and an interdisciplinary approach in system design
  • Conduct system level analysis for compliance and functionality
  • Review engineering drawings, bills of material, and other technical data
  • Organize, prepare, review and present system level designs for meetings and design reviews with customers
  • Create documentation such as test reports, analyses, or other compliance data to verify and validate the system design
Educational Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience
  • Experience with military avionics system development, requirements definition, specification development, component analysis, procurement, source selection, integration and test, installation, and design verification
  • Experience with military standards such as MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704 and MIL-HDBK-516.
  • Experience interpreting component detail drawings, specifications, installation drawings, and test procedures
  • Experience with AS9100D or similar quality standards
  • Familiarity with implementing design/integration considerations associated with size, weight, power, and cooling requirements for aircraft equipment
  • Familiarity with aircraft rack design, shock isolation, and mission line replaceable unit mounting/integration
  • Experience with electrical wiring interconnection systems to include selection of components such as conductors, connectors, backshells, relays, circuit breakers, etc.
  • Knowledge of EMI shielding and wire harness separation best practices
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a large multi-disciplined team
  • Ability to travel (< 25%)
  • Ability to obtain Security Clearance, for which the United States Government requires United States citizenship
Preferred Skills:
  • Proven history of installing complex avionics systems on military aircraft
  • Experience with communication systems to include RF component selection such as antennas and cabling
